Leigh Grinstead
Leigh Grinstead is in charge of CDP@BCR, a digitization service.
Leigh and I had a more informal interview; she told me how the CDP had come into existence and described the digitization process of the Rocky Mountain Online Archive. We also discussed her current projects and took a look at the contributor and user interfaces for the online repositories.
CDP was initially created as part of a large scale digitization project. It involved several repositories from New Mexico, Colorado, and Wyoming digitizing their collections while following best practice guidelines created by the collaborating institutions; these records were then converted into EAD and placed online using a single database.
We discussed the obstacles presented by moving images: primarily that there are no standards as there are in the audio world in regard to best format and that moving images take up far more space than audio, image or text files.
Since CDP was acquired by BCR, Leigh has spent much of her time traveling to train archivists and librarians interested in digitization. She has also spent time managing grants for projects undertaken by CDP@BCR and its partners.
